Best time for Poon Hill Trek

The best time to visit Poon Hill is during spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November). At this time, the sky is clear, and the scenery is spectacular.

However, people do Ghorepani and Poon hill trek throughout the year, and Mountain Magic Treks conducts Poon hill trek in all seasons.
Trekking is challenging in winter due to low temperature and snowfall, while monsoon rains in summer make trekking wet and slippery. Some adventurous trekkers find these challenges exciting and also trek to Ghorepani and Punhill during these seasons.

The temperature in the mountains also depends on the altitude - the higher altitude - the colder it is. Here is the weather condition at high altitude of Ghorepani Poon Hill trek.

March-May (Spring Season)

Spring (March-May) is the best season to trek to Poon Hill, and trekkers from all over the world come to visit these destinations during this time. During this season, the weather is mild, rainfall is low, and trekking conditions are perfect.

The average daily spring temperature at Poon Hill high altitude ranges between 5°C to 15°C. The lower regions are warmer. The trekking season starts after March, and by April, the trek route rhododendron flowers bloom which add red, pink and white colors to the sub-tropical forest.

June - August (Summer)

If you visit Poon Hill between July and August, your trek is in summer. Although summer temperatures are high in trekking areas, so is the monsoon period, which brings a lot of rain. Due to rain, hiking trails can be wet and slippery.

Monsoon usually starts towards the end of June and continues till the second week of August. Daytime temperatures, at higher altitudes, range from 15°C to 25°C during summer. Nights are cool, with temperatures ranging from 5°C to 15°C.

Although rain can cause some problems, it provides plants with much-needed water that makes them bloom. If you enjoy lush vegetation, this is the trekking season for you.

September - November (Autumn)

Autumn season is also a favorable season for the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek. Moderate temperatures, light winds and low rainfall make trekking in the fall a pleasant experience.

During this season, the sun shines brightly, the sky is clear, and you get a great view of the mountains and green hills. The nights are also cloud-free, giving you great views of the night sky.

By early September, the monsoon will be over, and the temperature will be mild. Daytime temperatures can reach up to 20 degrees Celsius at higher altitudes. Nights are cool with temperatures around 5°C.

During this season, the green grown in the monsoon fades to golden/amber and provides a spectacular contrast against the crystal blue sky. In the terraced fields the grain is ripe and ready for harvest.

The environment is clean, and the plains are picturesque.

Dashain and Tihar are the major festivals of Nepali in this season. It brings a festive mood to the padayatra area and across Nepal.

December - February (Winter)

Winter treks in the Annapurna region are not as popular as spring or autumn treks. Although the Ghorepani trekking area is cold in winter when there is snow, it has excited some trekkers.

The coldest time is from late December to early February. After the end of February, the weather gradually warms up. Daytime temperatures can drop as low as -5 degrees Celsius at higher altitudes.

Despite the cold, winter skies are usually clear, and the mountain views are spectacular with snow caps. The trails are less busy at this time. While new trekkers may find this trek quite challenging, experienced trekkers will have no problem completing this trek in winter.

The weather in the mountain region is unpredictable and changes quickly.

Physical condition and experience requirements

The Poon hill trek is an easy grade trek in the Annapurna region. Trekking is usually 4 to 5 hours a day, taking regular breaks to enjoy and admire the beautiful mountain scenery.

Ghorepani trek trails are not very steep but good uphill and downhill. Hiking at higher altitudes is physically more demanding than trekking at lower altitudes. So you should have average physical fitness and strong determination.
Trekkers who can walk for 4 to 5 hours a day at a reasonable pace with a light day pack can complete this trek. It may be necessary to stay awake for a few days.

Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases must inform us before booking the trek.

Most of our guests prefer to learn common Nepali words from our team.

Me and my girlfriend did the Poonhill trek and were very satisfied with the whole experience. The view from Poonhill is really magnificent. Our guide was caring and knew his way around the mountain.

We were picked up from and to the airport and the travel agency also organized our bus trips across the country. Overall the response rate was almost immediate. We really liked the flexibility and competitive prices of the agency and would recommend it to anyone!

We organised our trip through Rewati, owner of Mountain Magic Treks Ltd, and could not have asked for a better experience to see the variety of Nepal and what it has to offer. All transport to and from the airport was arranged and transfers between destinations, taking all the stress out for us. We began our experience in Chitwan and Rewati organised an amazing accommodation and tour of the jungle to see Rhinos and wildlife - highly recommend - then back onto Pokhara to begin our 4 day Poon Hill Trek, guided by Rewati and a porter. They were great company, providing lots of information about the Himalayas and surrounding areas. All food and accommodation was organised at an amazing price as part of the package. We loved the trip and so sad it had to end - would highly recommend Mountain Magic Treks for your experience of Nepal.

Great trekking with awesome guide!

We did an extended Poon Hill trek during Monsoon season in August. Despite some rain, it was a really enjoyable trip. Our guide Phurba was really the best guide you could imagine. He knows a lot of the mountains and the surroundings and can tell you nice stories of his previous hikes through all of Nepal. He was willing to help you as much as possible where needed.
We hiked for seven days and it was the highlight of our trip to Nepal.

I was recommended Mountain Magic Treks & their operator (Rewati) by my friend Brian Lombard a few years back. At the time he had completed the Poonhill trek despite being athletically limited. Brian mentioned that Rewati had meticulously planned everything which simplified what was a daunting dask for him. Brian maintains had it not been for Rewatis organisational skills (including sorting out a porter to carry his bag) as well his own wife's constant encouragement, he would never have made it up Poonhill.

Armed with this recommendation, I set about Poonhill myself. Rewati lived up to his reputation and took care of everything. Even going as far as collecting and dropping me to the airport, bringing me for a welcome dinner & sorting me out with any equipment I was missing like a jacket + walking poles.

I had a great guide in Mr Kim and porter in Mr Kumar to accompany me for the trek. The trek itself was short, 4 days in total. Anyone with a decent base level of fitness would be able to complete with relative ease. It definitely whet the appetite for something more challenging in the future.

Hopefully I'll get the opportunity to meet these guys again for a bigger trek. 5 stars for me!
